Parents are obliged to support all their minor children’s needs according to each parent’s capacity (Fam C. 3900). But when the child reaches adulthood (18 years) before he/she finishes high school, this statutory obligation continues for parents to support the child who is a full-time high school student, unmarried and not fully self-supporting until he/she graduates from high school or until the child reaches 19 years, whichever would come first; and any support after that is already subject to the parents’ agreement (Fam C. 3901). For better understanding of the laws on child support, consult with an expert family law attorney.
