Besides the attorney’s fees, you will have to pay certain additional costs and expenses. For example, besides the fee for appearance, you will have to pay the filing fee or the court fee as well.
An attorney’s bill will generally feature many costs. Often you will be charged for these costs separately. Some attorneys may include all the costs together as an item on the bill will some attorneys include some costs in their fee. Before you select an attorney, make sure you find out from the attorney the costs that will be included the attorney’s bill. The above list is not all inclusive. Ask the attorney for a written estimate of all the costs. Find out if there is set rate for some of the costs. For example, in case of copying costs, how much will you have to pay per page. If you want to control the costs, you can ask the attorney to inform you once the costs reach a certain amount and to seek your approval before proceeding further. While some of the costs such as court fee are determined by the government, costs like copying fee, electronic research fee, etc are generally charged by the attorney and if you negotiate with the attorney, you may be able to get a discount.
