Important Tax Timeline for 2009

It is important to know when you need to file for your personal income tax with the IRS so that you will not get into trouble. Moreover, it is also important that to know when to file for extension and when to make estimated tax payments. The thing here is that when filing for your tax return, it is important that you remember these important dates: 

Jan 15: The Final Installment of the Estimated Tax for 2008

Feb 15: Claiming Exemption Deadline for Withholding Tax for 2009

April 15: Deadline for Filing the 2008 Tax Return or Application for Extension for 2009
First Installment of the Estimated Tax for 2009

June 15: Deadline to File for US Citizens and Outside the U.S
Second Installment of the Estimated Tax for 2009

Sept. 15: Third Installment of 2009 Estimated Tax

Oct. 15: Time to File For Your 2008 Income Tax after a Six-Month Extension

January 15, 2009- The Final Installment of 2008 Estimated Tax

If you did not pay your income tax for 2008, then you can pay the final installment of your tax on this day by using the Form 1040-ES.

February 15, 2009- Claiming Of Exemption from Withholding Tax For 2009

If you have claimed an exemption from your withholding tax last year using the W-4 that you have submitted to your employer, then you need to file a new W-4 Form in order to be exempted for the following year.

April 15, 2009- Deadline for Filing the 2008 Tax Return or Application for Extension for 2009

This is the time when you file your 2008 income tax return with the IRS and that all taxes that you owe must be settled.

However if you are still not ready to file, then you can get the six months extension by filing the Form 4868 Application for Automatic Extension.

Even if you are applying for an extension, it is important that you estimate and enter all of your tax liabilities for the previous year on the application. This also includes putting in the interest of your unpaid taxes so that you prevent getting any penalty from the IRS.

April 15, 2009- First Installment of the Estimated Tax for 2009

For people who will not pay their 2009 withholding tax, they can pay the first installment of their estimated tax during this day only by filing the Form 1040-ES.

June 15, 2009- Deadline for US Citizens and Others Living Outside the US

If you are a US citizen or a resident alien living in other countries, then you need to file your tax return and make sure that your payments will be settled this date.

If you cannot file just yet, then you can get the four months extension by filing the Form 4868 Application for Automatic Extension

June 15, 2009- Second Installment for the Estimated Tax For 2009

For tax payers who cannot pay their income tax through withholding for 2009, then they can pay at the second installment by filing out the Form 1040-ES.

September 15, 2009- Third Installment of the Estimated Tax For 2009

For tax payers who cannot pay their income tax through withholding for 2009, then they can pay at the third installment by filing out the Form 1040-ES.

October 15, 2009- Time To File for Your 2008 Income Tax after an Extension of 6-months

The taxpayers who have applied for an extension of 6-months for 2008 are now liable to file for their income tax during this day.
