Divorce
Once you have taken the decision to file for divorce, you must understand how the process works. A divorce is essentially adversarial in nature – one spouse fighting the other. We have the resources that can help you navigate the divorce process smoothly and covers topics like no fault divorce, service of the petition, divorce mediation, alimony & child support, child custody and much more.
Child Custody
If there are children from the marriage, the divorce decree will specify who gets custody of the children. When one spouse is awarded custody of the children, the other will be awarded visitation rights. If the spouses are able to work out an agreement on custody and visitation on their own or with the assistance of their lawyers or a mediator, the court will incorporate the agreement into the divorce decree. If the spouses cannot resolve the issue, the court will decide the issue according to the state law.
Child Support
Child support covers more than the basic requirements of the child like food and clothing. In fact it covers a broad range of expenses including medical expenses, school fees, entertainment and extracurricular activities. Many factors including the income of the parents, the ability to pay child support, the needs of the child and the amount required to ensure stability are factors in the child’s standard of living.
